DCLG Empowerment Fund Application for the Environmental Law Foundation
www.elflaw.org

I am a trustee of the Environmental Law Foundation, a unique charity which provides access to environmental justice for individuals and community groups to whom it might otherwise be denied. My initial role on becoming a trustee was to provide guidance in relation to the charity’s rebranding in 2007 and I continue to provide advice in relation to general management, structural and stakeholder relationship issues.
In January 2009, working closely with our President Martin Polden OBE, I and our Chief Executive Debbie Tripley wrote our application for funding of £250,000 from the DCLG’s new Empowerment Fund. Crucial to this was explaining the process by which good intentions would be transformed into delivered, hard, worthwhile results.
In April 2009, we were informed that our submission had been successful, one of just 21 out of 160 organisations that had applied. This funding will make a huge difference to the Foundation, allowing the fulfilment of our Sustainable Communities Project, which helps communities to access their rights under the Sustainable Communities Act.
